UoN Management seeks Partnership through Alumni Engagement
On Friday, 14 August 2026, the University of Nairobi Senior Management held consultations with alumni to discuss a comprehensive plan to improve student accommodation and address the condition of the University’s halls of residence.
Held at the Council Chambers, University of Nairobi Towers, the meeting highlighted the urgent need to assess the hostels and determine which facilities require refurbishment, upgrading or complete reconstruction.
The Vice Chancellor, Eng. Prof. Ayub Gitau, commended the alumni for their achievements in business, government and professional life, noting that the University takes pride in their contributions to society.
The University committed to preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BoQs) outlining the works, materials and resources required for each facility. It also proposed an inclusive model through which alumni groups, corporate partners and other stakeholders could adopt individual halls, hostels or blocks for refurbishment or redevelopment.
“We are willing to support this initiative,” said Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba, a very proud Alumni of the University of Nairobi’s Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
The meeting also called for stronger connections among alumni from different graduating classes to broaden participation and resource mobilisation. The planned Kabete Campus Homecoming in September 2026 will provide an opportunity to strengthen these networks and rally support for the initiative.
The Vice Chancellor proposed the formation of a small committee comprising representatives from the University, alumni and Facilities Management to guide implementation.
The initiative seeks to translate the discussions into tangible projects that will enhance student welfare, improve ageing facilities and strengthen the University of Nairobi’s reputation as a leading institution of higher learning.
