Prof.  Fredrick Were has been appointed as a new member in the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH). He brings extensive experience in maternal and newborn health, child nutrition, health services and immunization.

"Prof. Were will deepen the expertise, capability and representation of the board, especially in the areas of primary health care, public health, and health systems. “It is a privilege to have Prof. Fredrick Namenya Were join the PATH board”, said David King, chair of PATH’s board of directors. “He has exceptional credentials in PATH’s critical areas of focus, and I am confident that he will contribute greatly to the execution of PATH’s strategy and the achievement of its mission of achieving global health equity.”

Prof. Fredrick Namenya Were, MD, PhD, MSc, MPA, is the Professor of Perinatal & Neonatal Medicine at the University of Nairobi. He also serves as the Head of the Department of Paediatrics unit of Child Health, and the Chief Research Adviser Executive Director of Kenya Paediatric Association, where he served as the National Chairman for 11 years. Along with his current roles in the University of Nairobi, Dr. Were provides clinical
services at Kenyatta National Hospital and supports the Ministry of Health on national committees in various areas of child health. 

He has been active in the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) in Immunization, Maternal and Newborn Health, and served as Scientific Advisory Committee Faculty in the area of Childhood Vaccines and Immunization of the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI). Dr. Were received his MBCHB, MMED and PhD from the University of Nairobi.
