A high-powered delegation from Princeton University, United States of America visited the University of Nairobi and discussed possible ways of collaborating with the university of Nairobi to give Princeton the opportunity to attract world class talent from Kenya and Africa.

The team was led by Prof.Rodney Prestley, Princeton’s Dean of the Graduate School   and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering who paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi on Friday ,20th  January 2023.

While addressing the guests on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs noted that UoN has a wide global network of partners including the US but had not established links with Princeton. He pointed out that time is now ripe for UoN to forge partnership with Princeton which is the leading Public University in the US. Prof. Ogeng’o informed the visiting delegation that UoN offers a hybrid of Sciences and Arts based courses and therefore there is opportunity for collaboration between corresponding faculties and department within the two universities.

Princeton University was founded in 1746. It is the fourth oldest institution in the US. According to the Dean, it is a liberal Arts school with strong Engineering rooting.

There are 4 faculties namely; Humanities, Engineering, Social Sciences and Natural sciences focusing on world class undergraduate and post graduate studies.

The campuses experience at Princeton is rich where all undergraduate stay on campus. Residential learning is important.

 Princeton is a very flat organization that focuses more on teaching and research. It has a strong foundational research that creates impact on society. In the last two years alone, Princeton has produced 6 Nobel prize winners, three of those were recruited to Princeton as a result of partnerships.

Princeton University is looking for opportunities to engage with African Institutions and Universities and forge strong partnerships. One of those research centers is Impala Research Centre in Laikipia, Kenya.
