The Ministry of Education has pledged its support towards the completion of the Wangari Maathai Institute project.

This was revealed when a team from the Ministry of Education led by PS, Amb. Simon Nabukwesi toured the facility on Monday January 10, 2022.

Amb. Nabukwesi commented on the beauty and the excellence that went into planning and implementation of the project. He said, ‘I want to thank everyone who has put in the work to see the success of phase I of this project. I will ensure that it is completed and because the President, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta is the one who laid the foundation stone, then he will be the one who officially commissions it.’

He urged the University to start looking for partnerships and immediately put into use the spaces that are complete and that would be a source of income.

He commended the University and the especially the management in their integrity of utilizing and accounting for the resources allocated towards the project.

As he took them round the project, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kiama enthusiastically elaborated the plan and the thinking behind every area of the Wangari Maathai Institute. He said that the nature trail was inspired by the notion of having, ‘walking meetings’, and lectures under the trees. He noted that the colors of the Institute were inspired by Pan-African themes colors and the building and the finishing was inspired by an outside-inside feel.

The team from the Ministry of Education was treated to a nature trail, a tour of the water recycling plant, the model of the whole project, the exhibition spaces, the state-of-the art kitchen and the proposed restaurant and outdoor amphitheatre.
