Impact Farm, an innovation, by a team of UoN students emerges top at the EAC Digital Innovation event.

The team which comprises of Charles Oyamo, Iyvie Mboya, Kairu Karega and Jecinta Mwangi all Journalism and Mass communication students; They were among other innovators who formed 10 teams that underwent a rigorous one week boot-camp at Strathmore University to gain insight, guidance and advice on their innovations. They then pitched their idea to a panel of judges and wowed them resulting to their win.

Impact Farm is an agricultural-oriented business aimed at providing cold storage solutions for farmers for as low as Ksh 50 daily to reduce post harvest loss.

The competition was not only identifying these innovative ideas but was also about offering the teams mentorship, advice, more opportunities and the means to upscale their innovations into sustainable businesses.

The team was among two that won the competition from Kenya, and other two from Rwanda.  They received $1,000 each as funding and will proceed to the regional finals in May.

Some of the innovations that participated in the bootcamp and the pitching event were, an innovation that seeks to ease the life of pastoralists and ranch owners by providing tracking collars for their animals, an app where farmers can order agriculture inputs and farm tools which are delivered straight to their doorstep, another innovation that will set up WiFi hotspots on the streets of Juba, a smart parking solution that allows car owners to have access  up to 3 parking spaces across the city just to mention a few.

The EAC Digital Innovation event that was held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Daystar University . The event was organised by various partners and stakeholders;  StartHub Africa, AIESEC, dSkillsEA, Strathmore University, Close the Gap and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA ).
