Research Consortium (AERC) Board visits UoN

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) board paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor to brief him on the activities of the consortium and seek mutual support.  The board was led by its current Chairman, Prof. Neil Rankin from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

The board also visited the School of Economics to review the implementation of its Ph.D. programme, which has sponsored 14 students, assess facilities and meet students and staff.  UoN is a key member of AERC according to the Board Chairman, Prof. Rankin. 

Canadian High Commissioner pays a Courtesy Visit to the UoN Vice-Chancellor

Canadian Ambassador H.E. David Collins with DVC, Students Affairs Prof. Isaac Mbeche.The University of Nairobi students are set to gain from increased exchanges with their counterparts in Canada.  This was revealed by the Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya H.E. David Collins when he paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor on April 21, 2011.

He encouraged Kenyan Students to apply for graduate education in Canada, where there are also allowed to engage in part time jobs to decrease their tuition costs and also get opportunities to gain postgraduate  work experience of upto three years.  Canadian universities are also cheaper than their counterpart in the US and U.K.

 

Thousands turn up for the third Open Day

The University of Nairobi successfully held its third open day on 1st and 2nd of April 2011 at the Great Court, Main Campus, with the Theme “An opportunity to invest in your future”. The well attend function was held in a colourful ceremony presided over by the CEO, Barclays Bank, Mr. Mohammed Adan and graced by top management led by the Chancellor, Dr. Joseph Wanjui.

 During the open day, experienced staff comprising of professors and other senior staff were at hand to receive visitors at the stands and to respond to any queries relating to courses offered at UoN. Visitors were encouraged to engage members of staff for assistance to make informed choices about their higher education careers.

School of Business to compete internationally

The Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Dr. Joseph B. Wanjui, has challenged the School of Business to re-engineer itself and attain world class status to rival its peers in developed countries.  He said this during the tour of the facilities at the School of Business headquarters, Lower Kabete Campus.

In view of the competition managing from other business schools in the region, the Chancellor challenged the School of Business to be proactive and ensure that it maintains a cutting edge over its competitors through introduction of courses targeting different interest groups in the market.
