CASELAP holds fourth annual lecture on climate change

The guest speaker, Prof. Randall S. Abate, a scholar from Florida A&M University.


Climate change poses grave development challenges to Kenya, Africa and the whole world. It is now widely recognized as the major environmental problem facing the globe.

To this end,  the Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) and the School of Law recently held a public lecture on climate change titled “Climate Change and Indigenous Peoples: The Search for Legal Remedies.” The lecture is part of the annual lecture series organized by CASELAP which began three years ago, as part of an intellectual focus on environmental matters.

The distinguished speaker, Prof. Randall S. Abate, a scholar from Florida A&M University, spoke on the vast effects of climate change, how indigenous people are affected and the laws and initiatives put in place to protect this group of people.

UoN Professor stars in an election movie

Prof. Paul Mbatia of the Department of Sociology, University of Nairobi and Prof. Wesley Shrum, a Sociologist at Louisiana State University, have produced a documentary movie dubbed Brother Time. The movie is a Kenyan tale of violence and humanity.

Brother Time is a tale of two Rift Valley neighbours, whose friendship turn to conflict as ethnic passions threaten to engulf them. The film is narrated by Kenyans who witnessed ‘the clashes.’ It is a peace building documentary film made for the 2013 general election.

SONU Secretariat sworn in

The Speaker, Student Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) Mr. Philbert  K’ongola  and the Clerk Cypriano Singi among other officials of the SONU Secretariat were sworn in by the Chief Legal Officer Ms Rebecca Ngondo in a ceremony witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, Prof. Isaac Mbeche and SONU executive officials.


CAVS launches fish farming project

Prof. J.M. Ntiba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries Development places fingerlings in one of the fish ponds. Looking on is Prof. S.G. Kiama, Director, Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies and Prof. Agnes Mwang’ombe, Principal, CAVS.

The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) recently launched a fish farming project at its newly established fishponds site.

The project jointly undertaken by the College and the Ministry of Fisheries Development saw the set up of ten fish ponds stocked with a total of 10,000 fingerlings.
