UON to collaborate with Likoping University

Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, UoN and Dr. Helen Dannetun, Vice-Chancellor, LiU sign the MoU.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) through the College of Education and External Studies (CEES) has entered into a partnership agreement with Linkoping University (LiU), Sweden.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) which was signed between the two universities will focus on student and staff exchange programmes, cultural exchange programmes, joint academic course development and research exchange. In addition, a collaborative partnership on joint applications for funding will also be factored in. Each University may exchange up to six undergraduate or postgraduate students within the field of education.

The partnership between the two universities dates back to 2009 when a visiting lecturer from LiU made a request to the School of Education for a joint meeting of staff and students from UoN’s Geography Department and Linkoping and Gothenburg Universities. This marked the beginning of a successful relationship with UoN which has led to the signing of the MOU.

Dr. Helen Dannetun, Vice-Chancellor, LiU, said his University focuses on contributing to technological and professional education and research and is optimistic of a long term and steady collaboration with UoN.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs, said that one of UoN’s objectives is to collaborate with other institutions of higher learning to improve the quality of its programmes. He said that UoN aims at participating in the discovery and transmission of knowledge and the stimulation of intellectual life and development of Kenya.

Prof. Henry Mutoro, Principal, CEES, Prof. Simeon Mitema, Director, Centre for International Programmes and Linkages, Prof. Samson Gunga, Dean, School of Education among others witnessed the signing of the MOU.
