eMTCT –Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV

  • All Pregnant mother s are screened for HIV
  • HIV Positive mothers are provided with medication, counseling and education
  • Referrals and Follow-up

 

Condom use promotion

  • Education & sensitization
  • Dispensers are available in washrooms
  • Distribution and proper disposal

 

Male Circumcision

  • Education & sensitization
  • Voluntary male circumcision provided at the UHS Theatre

 

Surgical Services

  • UON Theatre services available on referral from the clinicians

 

Medical care

  • The University runs a 24 hour out-patient clinic
  • Nursing services are available in all clinics
  • The University Hospital offer in-patient services
  • There are satellite clinics in all campuses
  • Hospitalization for specialized care done in other hospitals.
  • Special clinics for STI’s and TB
  • Ambulance Services-24 hour ambulance service is available

 

Behaviour Change

  • Peer  counseling / Educators Programs
  • Orientations for incoming students
  • Information, Education and Communication materials-(IEC)
  • HIV/AIDS Sensitization and campaigns in all campuses
  • Reduction of Stigma & Discrimination and support  Groups

 

Research

  • University collaborates and networks with other institutions on  research, training, dissemination and sponsorship for HIV/AIDS programs
  • There is ongoing research at the College of Health Sciences on HIV/AIDS vaccines as well as on discordant couples

 

Security

  • The University runs a 24 hour security services on all campuses in case of emergency and urgency
  • Adequate lighting along campus streets

 

Rape

  • Report to University Health Services (UHS) for medical assistance and preventive treatment of HIV/STI’s and Pregnancy.
  • Report to the police station and ensure you fill in the Post Rape Care forms
  • Seek help from university counselors.
  • Report to the University Security Services

 

Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

  • Provision of treatment to prevent possible HIV transmission following sexual assault
  • Education  and counseling

 

Preserve evidence

  • If you should change your clothes carry them in a brown paper bag or newspaper NOT plastic paper to the University Health Services
  • Urinate in a bottle if necessary and carry it to the University Health Services clinic

 

 Do not

  • Take a bath, brush your teeth or cut your nails

 

Important tips

  • Avoid lonely roads or dark alleys
  • Walk in groups and avoid going places with people you don’t know
  • Stay alert-avoid food or drinks given by strangers
  • Do not leave your food or drinks unattended
  • Avoid alcohol and drug Abuse
  • Know yourself and friends well
