UoN and UJ sign MOU

The University of Nairobi (UoN) and the University of Juba (UJ) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two work together in different areas of collaboration including establishing student and staff exchange programmes and research and production partnerships, curricula development, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice- Chancellor during the signing ceremony, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Student Affairs, welcomed the initiative and cited the importance of partnerships. He said that UoN has admitted over 200 students from Sudan, and is therefore honoured to be involved in capacity training for the country.
Prof. Aggrey L. Abate, the Vice Chancellor, UJ said that regional cooperation is important especially when dealing with regional problems and opportunities. In addition, regional cooperation will enhance acceptability of graduates in the region.
The partnership will also go a long way in assisting UJ deal with some of the teething problems it has been experiencing since the move back from Khartoum to Juba, especially in regard to training in legal studies. The University of Juba, is being assisted in the endeavor by the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), indeed, the UJ has also entered into agreements with the University of Dar-es- Salaam and Makerere University for revamping legal education and training in South Sudan particularly with UJ’s College of Law.
Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, DVC, Academic Affairs, Prof. Lucy Irungu, DVC, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. S. Mitema, Director, Centre for International Programmes and Links (CIPL) and Dr. Henry Onoria, Legal Education and Training Advisor, ILDO South Sudan Country Office were among those who witnessed the signing of the MOU.
