UON’s new Google Ambassadors

University of Nairobi (UoN) now has new Google Ambassadors. The team comprises 2nd year Bachelor of Law student Muuo Isaac, who is the lead Ambassador and 3rd year Computer Science students Paul Nyaga and Sylvia Karanja.
Known as ‘Team Awesome,’ the young Ambassadors are working towards hosting different fun filled events to introduce the University to new Google tools, technologies and create awareness about Google opportunities for university staff and students.
The Google Student Ambassador (GSA) Program is an opportunity for students to serve as liaisons between Google and their universities.
Last month, 170 students from 12 Sub-Saharan Africa countries represented over 100 universities converged in Nairobi for the 2012 Google Student Ambassador Sub-Saharan Africa Summit. The three day summit covered interactive sessions on different Google products including Google Apps for Education and Map Maker.
Google launched the programme in July 2011 as part of its commitment to empower the African academic community with knowledge, infrastructure and tools to access information easily and effectively. This year the program has grown by 150 percent from last year and is without doubt going to help bring Africa online.
Recently, ‘Team Awesome’ held a fun-filled and informative training for UoN class representatives and club officials in a bid to ensure that all clubs are online and classes embrace the latest Google technologies to enhance communication and collaboration. Already over 50 university clubs are online and awaiting linkages with College level websites.
The University congratulates the team and wishes them well in their endeavors.
