The newly inaugurated council.

The Embu University College (EUC) council was inaugurated after its upgrading from Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) by President Mwai Kibaki, a government legal notice last year. The college becomes the third constituent college of the University of Nairobi – others being the South East University College (SEUCO) and the Kenya Polytechnic University College.  EUC will admit its first batch of 350 students this academic year to pursue courses in science and agriculture.

Previously known as Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College, the Embu University College is a new addition to UoN. It is one of the nine new university constituent colleges upgraded in a legal order by the government.

Under the leadership of Margaret Gikuhi, the University College Council will spearhead the transition process. It will put in place proper structures to ensure that it becomes an academic institution of choice.

Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Salome Gachura congratulated the University for being the first of the nine University Colleges to inaugurate a council. She advised the team to exercise extreme professionalism and transparency in its operations.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha urged the new council to remain focused in order to achieve its mandate. The council’s first steps will include setting up functional laboratories before enrolling the first cohort of students.
