UoN staff at the DIAR  awards 2023 gala dinner 
on Fri Mar 3, 2023

The University of Nairobi was awarded and recognized for being the best public university in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at the Diversity and Inclusivity Awards and Recognition (DIAR) Gala dinner on Friday, Mar 3, 2023.

Other universities that were recognized in the same category were Kisii University and Multimedia University as the 1st and 2nd runners up.

UoN staff, Dr. Michael Munene was the winner for the PWD Inclusion champion.  

The 5th edition of the DIAR awards was themed, ‘I belong, you belong, we belong’. The event Masters of Ceremony was the gracious News anchor  Zubeida Kananu and Mr. Anthony Muriithi who engaged the guests. Sarakasi dancers also lit the stage with their eclectic dance moves.

Speaker after speaker that took to the podium highlighted the developments made in their organizations for inclusivity in line with their organizational objectives urging everyone to participate in Inclusivity and Diversity. 

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the Vice Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama officially received the award including two others  won by the University of Nairobi and the Women Economic Empowerment Hub (UoN-WEE Hub) Trailblazer Award. In his remarks, The Vice Chancellor, Prof Stephen Kiama said that as a result of these awards, people and institutions want to associate with the UoN brand, acknowledging that the university is a strong brand. “As a result of these awards, we are getting a lot of guests who just want to come and visit,” said Prof Kiama. He finished by saying that we have to make the University more sustainable, strong and vibrant.
