Academies to Strengthen Links with UoN

Vice Chancellor, Prof. G. O.A.Magoha with the team from Local and International academies

A high profile team from the local and international academies of sciences visited the University of Nairobi as part of their mission to strengthen their relationship with the institution.

 

Among the visitors were N. Sathyamurthy – Vice-President, Indian Academy of Sciences (INAS) Airo Moitera – Excecutive Secretary (INAS), Prof. Lamine Ndiaye, President, African Academy of Sciences (AAS),. Arungu Olende, Secretary General AAS, B.M. Abegaz, Executive Director, AAS and Prof. Raphael Munavu, Chairman, Kenya National Academy of Sciences (KNAS).
The KNAS which was hosting both the INAS and AAS delegations organized the courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, George Magoha and held seminars with staff and postgraduate students. During the visitation, Sathyamurthy hinted that they will strengthen collaboration with UoN and INAS. The delegation pledged greater focus on the need for strengthening collaborations based on the long term development of science in Africa through identification of priority areas and training of specialists.  He also emphasized the need to work on challenges affecting third world countries particularly Africa and India.  
Prof. Magoha said that the University of Nairobi has strong links with India, through scholarship and infrastructural development.
The meeting resolved to sign a Memorandum of understanding between UoN and INAS to benefit staff and student exchange on both sides.
 
Prof. Magoha assured the delegation of UoN’s support in strengthening the relationship with the academies.  Other officials of KNAS who attended the activities included Prof. Lydiah Njenga – Acting Dean, School of Physical Sciences, Prof. Kenneth Mavuti and Prof. Julius Mwabora.
