July 8, 2011: Cheers of jubilation rent the University this morning during a ceremony to mark the official launch of the Reviewed 2008-2013 Strategic Plan,

award of ISO 9001:2008 recertification, good ranking in performance contracting and long service awards.

The chief guest Prof. Hellen Sambili, acting minister for higher education, science and technology, lauded the University for launching its reviewed strategic plan as a road map to quality service delivery. She promised that her ministry would support UoN in its entirety, to ensure that it achieves its strategic objectives of offering quality higher education to Kenyans and the rest of the world.

The Chairman of Council, Mr. John Simba, in his remarks, emphasized that the ISO recertification of the University was confirmation that the institution has remained on track in line with the certification requirements as issued in 2008 when it was certified.

The improved performance of the University in the last six years was linked to full embracement of public sector reforms initiated by government said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha. He particularly congratulated staff for walking along with management to ensure quality service provision despite financial constraints.

The day also marked the award of long serving employees led by Prof. Florida Karani, Professor of Education, and Chancellor Maseno University who has given 42 years of continuous and distinguished service. Also awarded for long service, were George Amolo, 41 years, Mr. Francis Ndule 41, and Mr. John Kinyuru, 40.

Among those who graced the occasion were representatives from, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Council members, ministries and other government departments. The event organization was coordinated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof. Peter Mbithi.

Hi,
the university is very competitive at the entry of an MBA programme as I can attend friday and saturday classes because I work out of Nairobi. However when it comes to specilisation,90% of the units are held during the week. Its not possible for me to travel 400km to attend a class on wednesday.
Either expand or have a way of having these courses at end of week(friday /saturday).We are loosing leverage to other universities. We need to do something.

to the administration;-

The University of Nairobi is the leader; how can i travel from kitale /kapenguria/eldoret or garissa to come and attend classes which should have been at the door?
please expand and start campuses all over Kenya. you cannot be concentrated in three places.
otherwise
students will be taken over by others. EXPAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done for the upgrading of the Lower Kabete Computer Lab and Library. Students can now access faster internet and the e-learning center. Studying is much more easy in Lower Kabete.

That's great!! But you need to do something about the learning facilities, the rooms are crowded, the projectors should be placed overhead so that students at the back of class can also see what is been projected.
Kudos for the wireless mics used by lecturers.

I wish the university all the best. It was a job well done. The University management should do something about our salaries.
