UNES shines at the UoN Sports Day 2025
A gathering of Team Spirit and Athletic Excellence
UNES, Central Administration and Faculty of Agriculture were announced winners under the staff category at this year’s UoN Sports Day that was held on Friday, 9th October, 2025, while Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of Education were winners under the students’ category.
The event, organized by the Director of Sports and Games, showcased not only athletic talent but also teamwork, determination, and school spirit. The theme for this year’s Sports Day was, ‘Stronger together through Sports- we win!’
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Ayub Gitau, officially flagged off the ceremony and delivered an encouraging speech to students and Staff to give their best and embrace the values of fair play.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Science and chair of the Local organizing Committee, Prof. Kennedy Ogolla, the Dean of students, Mr. Johnson Kinyua and other top officials.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jesang Hutchinson while awarding winning teams expressed delight at the talents, unity and teamwork displayed throughout the planning and the execution of the Sports Day.
She expressed gratitude to the Partners that made the whole Sports Day possible including, Safaricom, Chuna Sacco, Redbull, UNES, Nation Media Group,
Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Darts, Football, handball, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Tug of War and Volleyball are the games that the UoN community engaged in on that day.
The day began from enjoying exercise and dances with energetic aerobics where people warmed up, before engaging in the actual sports. Students and staff represented displayed an urgency and eagerness to showcase their talent and passion for sports.
Throughout the day, the grounds were buzzing with energy, the Staff and engaged in friendly matches and races, adding a sense of community and togetherness to the celebration.
The Annual Sports Day 2025 was not just a competition—it was a celebration of perseverance, unity, and joy. It reminded everyone that while winning is rewarding, participation and team spirit are what truly matter.
