UoN to partner with a South African college

Representatives of the University of Nairobi and the South African College of Applied Psychology during the meeting.

The University of Nairobi and the South African College of Applied Psychology have entered into discussions on possible collaborations between the two institutions.

In a meeting with Dr. Ashley Smyth, Academic Dean, South African College of Applied Psychology, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Principal, Prof. Enos Njeru said that UoN was committed to benchmarking with international institutions in order to enhance its visibility. Prof. Njeru who was speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, observed that the meeting was important since it provided an opportunity for the two institutions to learn best practices from each other. He noted that, a partnership between the institutions psychology departments would be very useful to not only to the University of Nairobi but also to the entire country as well the general welfare of the local and global community.

Dr. Smyth said that UoN was one of the most reputable and experienced university in Africa.  Dr. Smyth noted that his mission was to seek a joint venture between the University of Nairobi and the South African College of Applied Psychology. “We would love to broaden our prospects beyond South Africa and we intend to partner with UoN in training and development particularly through student and staff exchanges or through a joint satellite programme.”

Prof. Njeru and Dr. Smyth agreed to initiate and expedite a memorandum of understanding for the partnership to kick off immediately. 

Also present during the meeting, were Prof. Peter Wasamba, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Dr. Joseph Obosi, Registrar, College of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Dr. Luke Okunya, Chairman, Department of Psychology.
