I &M Bank Presents a cheque to support UoN Basketball Team

The University of Nairobi and I &M bank have entered into discussions on collaboration to enhance the sports facilities at the University.

In the existing partnership, I &M Bank have pledged to consider the request to maintain the swimming pool and possibly enhance the partnership by equipping a gym for both its staff and UoN staff and students.

This was discussed during a cheque presentation ceremony in which the General Manager, Corporate Banking, Stephen Kimwele presented to the UoN Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, a cheque of Kshs. 160,000 from I &M Bank Foundation.

Mr. Kimwele noted that Sports is something the country holds dear and investing in the youth through sports is positively influencing and investing in their future.

Mr. James Gatere in charge of the I&M Foundation said that the bank set up a foundation as a vehicle to reach out to the community; Education and skills development is one of their main objective as a sphere of influence.

The Special Olympics Kenya National Director, Ms Susan Masila had a lot to say about the partnership between their organization and UoN.

While presenting a plaque to the VC, Special Olympics Kenya appreciated the UoN Community for their welcome and nurturing talents of over 60,000 intellectually disabled athletes in the 24 years of partnership.

“Our athletes feel they have a place they can call home; we have received care from the UoN Staff and students beyond the use of facilities. Special mention to one UoN Staff, a lawyer who came in and defended one of our athletes in a case pro bono and saw justice served.”

The VC, Prof. Isaac Mbeche gratefully acknowledged the partnerships and pledged management’s support to the collaboration and improvement of the sports facilities for UoN Students.

While moving a vote of thanks, Ms Rose Marete highlighted the good performance of UoN men and women basketball teams that attracted support through their results.

The sports Director, Mr. Mbaabu Muriithi and Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. John Orindi also spoke during the meeting.
