Training of Trainers (TOT) pedagogy training
The Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop took place from 14th March, 2016 to 18th March, 2016, led by the University of Washington. The University of Nairobi, HIV Capacity Building Fellowship facilitators went through a five day workshop on training skills.
Prof. Anne Downer and Beth Gragg from University of Washington, hosted by the University of Nairobi, were the main facilitators. Prof. James M’Imunya Machoki and Prof. Michael Chung (University of Washington) welcomed the participants to the forum. The main goal of training of trainers is to help participants to gain confidence in using more interactive techniques in their classroom training, incorporating new methods in trying to help them figure out how to get their students engaged.
Mostly, doctors and medics end up teaching although they have never gone through teaching training before. So most of them are experienced in lecturing but they need the theoretical framework about teaching. It is therefore, of great importance to enrich them with new ideas to appreciate the theoretical part of it.
‘We are producing a new generation of well-trained students, in the different fields. The better the teachers are, the better the students are and the better the students produced, the more the country benefits,’ Emphasized Prof. Anne Downer.
