French Minister Visits UoN

The Minister of State Development and Francophonie, Hon. Andre Vallini, on Friday, August 26, 2016 through the Sub- department of French at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) delivered a public lecture as well as paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor.

Hon. Andre Vallini interacted with the University of Nairobi students who are studying French.  The French Minister said that the main objective of the interaction with the students and his visit is to expand the study and the use of French. He said his role as a Minister is to defend and promote francophonie not only in French-speaking countries but also English-speaking ones.

Hon. Vallini said that their Minister of Education has put up an Alliance Francaise in France that will enhance students and staff exchange programme between Kenya and France. He added that The French Development Agency (AFD) and the Ministry of Education have signed an MoU that will enhance education of French in Kenya and particularly in the University of Nairobi.

He applauded the availability of a resource center at the sub- department of French that is supporting and training the trainers of French at CHSS.

 

Commencement dates – 2017/2018 academic year

1.         COMMENCEMENT DATES – 2017/2018 ACADEMIC YEAR

The University of Nairobi wishes to inform all first year (2015 K.C.S.E.) students admitted in the following Colleges that the commencement date for the 2017/2018 academic year is 5th September, 2016:

a)         College of Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences

            College of Architecture & Engineering

            College of Biological & Physical Sciences

            College of Health Sciences

b) Students admitted in the following Colleges will report on 9th January, 2017:

College of Humanities & Social Sciences

College of Education & External Studies

2.         TUITION FEES

(i)         ALL STUDENTS except Diploma students, shall each pay tuition Fees of Kshs. 16,000/= per year, before or on the registration day, made up as follows:

  1. Kshs. 8,000/- Direct Charge for which needy students may apply for Bursary from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  2. Kshs. 8,000/- for which one may pay direct or apply for a loan from HELB.

(ii)        Diploma students shall pay Kshs. 86,000/- plus all other additional related expenses payable by the first years.

3.         OTHER ADDITIONAL RELATED EXPENSES

International Conference on Opportunities for Youth in Agri-Business

The University of Nairobi in partnership with the Rockerfeller Foundation will host a town hall meeting to discuss opportunities for the youth in agribusiness at the UoN 844 Multipurpose hall. The forum will bring together entrepreneurs who will share their journey of success and highlight the untapped opportunities.

Date: 11th August, 2016.

Senate Approves Changes in the University QMS 2016

The University of Nairobi Senate chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi has approved the changes in the University Quality Management Systems, QMS.

Contextualization of QMS to the University of Nairobi, revision of quality policy objectives, reorganization of QMS manual, refreshing documentation, inclusion of top management  in the quality management system, continuous improvement of services, offering services according to the service delivery charter, improvement of employee satisfaction index are the key improvements to be made on the QMS.

Mr. Christopher Moturi, the Deputy Management Representative and Deputy Director, School of Computing and Informatics, noted that systems must work, processes must be followed.  He noted that the new QMS is based on: customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement and evidence based decision making and relationship management.
