Activities

University of Nairobi is endowed in the number of students admitted every year and multiplicity of colleges/ campuses housing this population, In effect we have the highest number of young men between the ages of 19 and 25years we endowed broader catchment for talent scouting ,identification, nurturing and development.

With the highest of number of teams participating at both regional and level, University of Nairobi contributes substantially to the local and  National clubs in terms of participants.

The centrality of University of Nairobi and Sports & Games Department, encourages and promotes the participation of sports &Games among our Students .It creates convenience to Student`s who are non – residents.

Sports and Games programmes in these campuses are administered and implemented by Games Tutors who are stationed in respective Campuses. The University of Nairobi, Sports and Games Department offers an array of sporting activities. This is to cater for diverse needs and orientation of the students.

Currently the University of Nairobi Rugby team (Mean Machine), Basketball, ((Terrorists / Dynamites) Hockey (Nyame), Soccer, Volleyball, Athletics, and Handball have always participated in the National leagues in the country. Basketball men have always qualified amongst the top  teams in the country  for the last many years. Mean Machine has worn the Floodlight tournaments  and  Enterprise cup several times(this league attracts top clubs teams). Mean Machine has also won several Gold medals  in the  East African Games and African Championships in the  FASU Games. University of Nairobi Handball teams (men & women) are currently the one of the best teams in the country.

Other areas where University of Nairobi have won Gold Medals and Silver Medals in the above Games were; Swimming (1), Table Tennis (1), Tennis (1), Badminton (2), Chess (2), Athletics (1) among others.

Level of competition

Currently most University of Nairobi teams are playing at the National level league and tournaments. In particular: Rugby, Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, Handball and Soccer are registered and playing in the National leagues. University of Nairobi has the highest number of player`s at the National level and also in the National league / National tournaments series.

Students of University of Nairobi participate in sports/ games at the following levels; 

  • Inter-Halls, Inter-faculty and Inter- Years.
  • Inter- Campuses/ Colleges. 
  • National Leagues & Tournaments. 
  • Local Inter- Universities games. 
  • National ( Kenya Inter- Unierstiy games).
  • Regional Games ( East Africa Inter-University Games).
  • Africa University Games.
  •  World University Games.
