The University of Nairobi will soon start an orchestra.

“The process of acquiring equipment and training the members of the orchestra is still ongoing,” said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi when he received a team from St. Anne’s College Camerata, University of Oxford. “We are looking forward to officially launching the University of Nairobi Orchestra in May 2018.”

The St. Anne’s College Camerata, University of Oxford is in Nairobi preparing for a concert at the St. Paul’s Catholic Chapel at the UoN Main Campus. The team has had practice sessions at St. Paul’s.

“We have had very successful practice sessions with UoN students at St. Paul’s. We are impressed at how they have mastered to play instruments such as the violin with no trainers. They are self-taught,” said Dr. Alberto Sanna, St. Anne’s College Camerata, University of Oxford. “The amount of talent is immense. With such a pool of instrument players, the UoN Orchestra dream can be realized”

“We will build on what we already have to set up the orchestra,” said the Dean of Students, Dr. Fr. Dominic Wamugunda.

“Although we are still at the foundational level of this orchestra, we will tap into the experiences of successful orchestras including Oxford’s,” said the UoN Choir Director, Dr. Fred Atoh. “We now have a formal contact with St. Anne’s.”
