Varsity joins in the Confucius Institute Day celebrations

The University of Nairobi joined the Chinese community in celebrating the Confucius Institute Day at the University of Nairobi, Main Campus on October 6, 2017.

The celebrations were attended by many dignitaries among them the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Dr. Liu Xianfa, who urged Kenya and China to continue the good relations between the two countries as it improves bilateral trade. “Friendship and goodwill provide strongest force for bilateral relations”, he said.

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, took the opportunity to thank the Chinese Ambassador for the continuous support to the University. In the recent past, the Ambassador has offered scholarship to several needy students to pursue their academic endeavors.

The bilateral relations between Kenya and China have contributed to the growth and development of various infrastructural projects in Kenya. The two nations continue to enjoy warm relations and improved bilateral trade and tourism.

The celebrations were marked by traditional dances, instrumental music and fashion show among other activities. The dances incorporated both Chinese traditional dances and contemporary Kenyan dance styles.

The University of Nairobi, Donghua University and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) were the event sponsors were.  The event was organized by Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, Donghua University Art Education Center and Donghua University Student Art Troupe.
