The University of Nairobi Public Relations students on Saturday, October 29, 2016 visited the Children’s cancer ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The students visited the sick children as part of Corporate Social Responsibility together with their lecturer, Mr. Godfrey Irungu Njega. The students contributed money that will be used to buy diapers for the ailing children.

The PR students were taken round by the Corporate Affairs Team, led by Lucas Ombogo.  They engaged the young children in singing, dancing, poems, and skits.

One of the nurses who accompanied the students during the ward rounds encouraged the Public Relations students to develop a close relationship with the children, get to know their parents and visit them frequently. “This is just the beginning, please continue coming regularly” said Mrs. Ndugu, a registered nurse at KNH Hospital.

Students who numbered 32 were also encouraged to go for cancer screening. Prevention is better than cure.

Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, who was represented by Mr. Godfrey Irungu Njega,   noted that the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta National Hospital have a long working relationship. The two institutions support each other’s training, research endeavours as well as supply of human capital. UoN Doctors serve at the health facility. The Principal urged the students to sensitize fellow students to go for screening.
