UoN hosts first ESDA-SUD Sustainability Workshop

Education for Sustainable Development in Africa– Sustainable Development ((ESDA-SUD) held the first workshop at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS), University of Nairobi (UoN).

The workshop brought together faculty members, students and stakeholders to discuss sustainability issues in Kenya.

The workshop which was held on September 25, 2017, brought together 24 participants drawn from different institutions. The theme of the workshop was ‘Sustainable Urban Development: Lessons and Perspectives’ from selected case studies.  The workshop’s main objective was to enhance the understanding and quality of the EDSA-SUD masters programme in order to achieve the mission and vision of training leaders for sustainable development in Africa.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Principal, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Prof. Stephen G. Kiama, emphasized the importance of the meeting. Prof. Kiama called the meeting “a gathering of those who care.”

“I hope that this workshop will develop initiatives that will provide reforms in the delivery of the agriculture curriculum to ensure it transforms learners to be change agents in communities they serve,” he said. “A curriculum whose intended outcome is to ensure communities are empowered.”

Four key note presentations were delivered during the morning plenary session.The afternoon session involved a very lively ESDA students’ debate facilitated by ESDA faculty.
