UoN and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to Collaborate

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016 a team from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), South Africa paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi in his office.

The Courtesy call was in preparation for the High Level Reference Group Meeting of the Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy (FishFORCE) Academy in Mombasa, Kenya, on November 23-24, 2016 and proposed Joint Collaboration between UoN and NMMU in addressing fisheries crime and support the Blue Economy.


Prof. Wambua Musili, School of Law (UoN) and Prof. Micheni Ntiba, State Dept of Fisheries and Blue Economy, in collaboration with Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy (FishFORCE) housed at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), South Africa, have been organizing  the conference on Blue Economy.

During the courtesy call they extended an invite to the VC to the conference.

Prof, Peter Mbithi, Vice Chancellor, UoN, while accepting the invitation to the conference and the collaboration, said that the University of Nairobi is willing to collaborate on the Fisheries crime and the Blue economy project. The VC said it’s the mandate of the University to take part in current projects and stay relevant citing the fact that it’s the University’s role to create employment for the youth and help in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

Present during the courtesy call were representatives from the office of the Director of Public prosecution, Mr. John Orindi, Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Director, University Advancement, among others.
