University of Sierra-Leone to Collaborate with UoN to Enhance Capacities
The University of Sierra Leone Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ekundayo J.D. Thompson paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Prof. Peter Mbithi, on Monday, September 12, 2016 in his office to discuss collaboration between the two institutions.
During the courtesy call, the two Vice chancellors agreed that the two institutions will collaborate on engineering and mining.
They also discussed various issues relating to University operations like performance contracting, strategic planning, webometrics ranking, university funding and advancement office, research uptake, student mentorship, curriculum development review, automation and Internationalization of the University.
Prof. Mbithi noted that the University has been able to perform well over the years because everything is based on performance. The University of Nairobi is the only government agency to have scored and sustained ‘Excellence’ rating in the performance contract for the last 10 years.
He said the University has also improved in the webometrics ranking having been ranked position six in Africa in previous rankings. As at now, the University strategic plan is undergoing review to help the University reposition itself for greatness as a model University of the future.
On the international front, the University has been host to high profile guests, key among them being; Pope Francis, President Barack Obama, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi and our very own President Uhuru Kenyatta among others dignitaries.
Going forward, a Memorandum of Understanding will be agreed upon to allow the two universities to collaborate in enhancing their capacities.
