Online Application Information System Launched

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi presided over the launch of the Online Application Information System

The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M. F. Mbithi presided over the launch of the Online Application Information System that will ease University application process. The system was launched today March, 14, 2016 at the Central Catering Unit.

Speaking during the launch, the Vice-Chancellor noted the online application system was being launched and will help the University management in decisions being driven by technology innovations.  Prof. Mbithi thanked the University Information and Communication Technology, ICT and Kenya Commercial Bank teams that worked to ensure success of the system. KCB will implement the payment gateway of the online application system.

Prof. Julius Ogen'go, the Director, Centre for Self-Sponsored Programs, CESSP, noted that the automated application process goes a long way in creating ease of doing business. The system makes access to data straight forward and will help in admitting more students.

Unlike the manual application process, the online application information system will help students track the application status.

The available payment systems that the system will use include cash, mpesa and credit cards.

The system was developed with relevant stakeholders including academic division, Board of Post Graduate Studies (BPS), Finance department, ICTC, CESSP, Deans were represented by School of Business.

Prof. Henry Mutoro, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, noted that the system is in line with the Open Distance Learning, ODel and will attract students across the globe.

ICTC Director, Mr. Ibrahim Otieno, on his part noted that the university will no longer require students to come physically and apply for various courses, but will have the convenience of applying wherever they are and hence the operational efficiency.

Dr. Sam Nyaoke, who represented KCB CEO, Mr. Joshua Oigara, noted that the system will help the University achieve its aspirations of being a world class university.

The system launch was attended by University of Nairobi Senate comprising of Deans , Directors and Heads of Departments from the various schools.
