On June 2, 2017, the members of staff from the Administration Department of the University of Nairobi were given a treat at Lake Elementaita in Gilgil for team building bonding activities.

As part of the University performance contracting requirements each unit is mandated to take its staff for team building at least once a year out of the normal working station.

Team building is a collective term of various types of activities used to enhance social relations and define roles within terms often involving collaborative tasks.    The team building facilitates better communication in the organizations.  These activities that were undertaken made the members to understand each other’s strength, weaknesses and interests.  Members of staff realized that they need each other to progress in their daily activities.  The understanding makes them work together on future progress of our University.

The most important thing was to get results through series of planned team bonding events that were motivational, team building skills like communication, planning, problem solving and conflict resolution.  Practically the coach gave simple activities that helped each other to see the implications of these activities at the work place.

Socializing and making friends in the workplace is one of the best ways to increase productivity in the office.  It also allows for officers to work better solving everyday workplace issues.  After completing teamwork activities together members felt better and appreciated each other’s effort.
